Explanation :
Sarnath Pillar was built by Ashoka to mark the site of Buddha's first sermon. It was adopted as the National Emblem of India. On the top there are four lions which rest on a drum carved with four animals a horse (west), an Ox (east), an elephant (south) and a Lion (north) on the base of a lotus flower.
